But, once I got the ribbing done, I realized I didn't like the yarn I was using, so I set the ribbing aside and started with a new yarn.

I knew the ribbed top had to be the main focus, so I decided to work simple stitches on the body... but I'm also a sucker for stripes, so I had to add those in too!
So here we have the Crochet Sweater Bag!

Notes
- Beginning ch-1 does not count as a stitch
- The finished size can be adjusted by changing the number of rows you work in the ribbing section. Rows need to be worked in multiples of 2.
- This bag is worked top down.
- Tutorial photos are at the end of the pattern
- Find a bag liner tutorial on my blog>> http://bit.ly/2JF2kHP

HANDLES
Cut 2 - 40” pieces of clothesline, knot both ends, and sc arnd them until you can no longer see clothes line.
BOTTOM INSERT
Cut cardboard or plastic canvas to a 12” x 2.5” rectangle. Optional: cover completely with fabric.
Finishing
- Turn bag so seam is on the side when bag is laid flat.
- Create a fold on the side, by tucking the side towards inside (six stitches wide). Place a stitch through row one of base, working through all layers, to hold fold/tuck in place. Repeat on opposite side.
- Move to the bottom and sew folds (tucked in portion to outer edge), so that the bottom corners of the bag look like a “V”. Then, sew across the bottom.
- Fold the ribbing in half towards the front, so it overlaps a few rows of the base.
- Attach handles to the inside of the purse, so the knotted end touches the bottom seam. Place several stitches around the handle through the ribbed portion to hold secure.
- Place cardboard or plastic canvas into the bottom of the bag, over the rope handles, to create a boxed bottom.
- Optional: Place rivets through cardboard/canvas and down through the bag bottom to hold the pieces in place.
- Optional: Line the bag with fabric. See tutorial.
- Optional: Place grommets through front center of bag to string yarn through for a project bag.
- Hide all strings
