Stingray Purse or Pal

After making the Pocket Full of Sunshine and the Pocket Full of Rainbows purses, my daughter (who quickly took them over) requested a Stingray purse. Immediately I thought, "That's a fun idea!"

As soon as I finished the purse base, she wanted to have it, she didn't even want to wait for the handle to be added. After our photo shoot with the purse, she requested I remove the handle. This made me think "this could easily be a cute stuffed animal too!".

Finishing

FOR PURSE/POUCH
1. Lay top piece over coordinating felt sheet and trace. Cut out ½” in from trace line (felt sheet needs to be ¼” smaller on all sides than the body piece). Repeat for belly piece.

2. Cut out two white felt circles, ½” diameter, for eyes.
3. Cut a small “X” in the center of the white felt circles and insert safety eyes (do not add backing)

4. On top piece (Color A): Insert safety eyes (with white felt already attached) between rows 11 & 12, 6 sts in from the edge and add eye backing to pin in place.

5. Place felt sheet over the top piece, covering the shank of safety eyes. Attach to felt to body with hot glue around the edge of the felt (as shown above).
6. Attach felt to belly pieces with hot glue around the edge of the felt (as shown above).
7. Place body pieces together, so felt in touching; attach Color A to tip of tail (in ch 2 space) and working through both layers of body at the same time: sc in same space and in the end of each row up to row 11; sc in end of each row and in each stitch around the top of the mouth ONLY to row 10; working through both layers again, sc in the end of each row back to the tip of the tail, sl st to 1st sc. Fasten.

8. Attach eyelids to top of eyes, tip slightly towards the outside.
9. Tip safety eyes, so the shank is facing toward the tail.
10. Hide all strings.
11.  For Purse Only: Attach handle to inside of mouth at corners (over rows 13 & 14 approx.)

FOR STUFFED ANIMAL - Mouth Open
Follow steps 1-10 of purse instructions; at step 6: Add stuffing between the felt and body pieces before completely attaching felt.

FOR STUFFED ANIMAL - Mouth Closed
1. Cut out two white felt circles, ½” diameter, for eyes.
2. Cut a small “X” in the center of the white felt circles and insert safety eyes (do not add backing)
3. On top piece (Color A): Insert safety eyes (with white felt already attached) between rows 11 & 12, 6 sts in from the edge, and add eye backing to pin in place.
4. Place body pieces together, attach yarn Color A to tip of tail (in ch 2 space) and working through both layers of body at the same time: sc in same space as join, sc in each row end and stitch arnd until row 30 is reached (on opposite side of start); leave working loop and continue to step 5
5. Stuff body generously. Do not overstuff or the stitches will stretch and stuffing will show.
6. Re-insert hook in working loop and sc the rest of the way to tip of tail; sl st to 1st sc.
7. Attach eyelids to top of eyes, tip slightly towards the outside.
8. Tip safety eyes, so the shank is facing toward the tail.
9. Hide all strings.
