Paragon Square Ornament

Over the next four weeks, we will be crocheting brand new Christmas ornaments! One new pattern will be released every Friday, from now through December 2nd, right here on my blog!

 Here is this week's pattern:
PARAGON SQUARE ORNAMENT


 MATERIALS NEEDED
*#2 or #3 Weight Yarn in preferred color(s)
*E/5/3.5mm crochet hook
*Decorative Beads
*Mini Pom Poms

STITCH GUIDE
arnd = around
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
FPdc = See Special Stitches
hdc = half double crochet
Picot = See Special Stitches
sc = single crochet
sk = skip
sl st = slip stitch

WRITTEN IN US TERMS


NOTES
This pattern is written with instructions for a one color ornament. Change colors as preferred.

 SPECIAL STITCHES
Front Post double crochet (FPdc) = YO, insert hook from front to back around post of stitch indicated, YO, draw up a loop, *YO, draw through 2 loops on hook* 2X. 
Picot = Ch 3, sl st to 1st ch made.

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Ch 4, sl st to form a ring, 8 sc in ring (8)
2. Ch 2 (counts as 1st dc), 2 dc in same sp as ch, ch 1, sk 1, *3 dc, ch 1, sk 1* arnd, sl st to join in 1st dc
3. Ch 1, *FPdc arnd 1st dc, 3 dc in next, FPdc arnd next, ch 2, sk ch-1 sp* arnd, sl st to join in 1st FPdc
4. Ch 1, *FPdc arnd 1st FPdc, dc, 3 dc, dc, FPdc arnd FPdc, ch 3, sk ch-2 sp* arnd, sl st to join in 1st FPdc
5. Ch 1, hdc in each st across to middle hdc of 3 dc cl, *(hdc, picot, hdc) in middle dc, hdc in each st across*, sl st to join in 1st hdc. Fasten.

FINISHING
*Cut 8” strand of yarn in contrasting color and tie into a bow.
*Add two beads to each yarn tail.
*Add a pom pom to each tail end.

*Turn square so it is diamond shape and attach bow to bottom center.
