Heart Nesting Baskets

Valentine's Day is getting closer and it's kicking my love for hearts into overdrive! Candy is also one of my favorite things, so why not mix them together?

The Large basket will hold two bags of small candies like Conversation Hearts or M & M's. The Medium Basket holds one bag, and the Small holds about half of a bag.

 Here's what you'll need:

MATERIALS
Worsted Weight Yarn 
     *White (Small)  
     *Pink (Medium) 
     *Red (Large)

arnd = around
ch = chain
dec = decrease
sc = single crochet
sc3tog = see special stitches
sl st = slip stitch

Size:
Small = 4” x 3” x 1.75”
Medium = 5” x 4” x 2”
Large = 5.5” x 5.5” x 2.25”

Gauge: Not important

* The bottom of the basket is worked flat and then the "walls" are worked in continuous
rounds with no joins or chains.
*These baskets were made using Deborah Norville Everyday Worsted in Really Red &
Snow White and Big Twist Value Worsted in Blush Pink.

SPECIAL STITCHES
single crochet three together (sc3tog) = insert hook in 1st stitch and draw up a loop, insert hook in next (2nd) stitch and draw up a loop, insert hook in 3rd stitch and draw up a loop, YO, draw through all loops on hook.

LARGE BASKET
1. Ch 2, sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, turn (1)
2. 2 sc in st, ch 1, turn (2)
3. 2 sc x 2, ch 1, turn (4)
4. sc across, ch 1, turn (4)
5. 2 sc, sc x 2, 2 sc, ch 1, turn (6)
6. sc across, ch 1, turn (6)

FINISHING
Shape wire so it makes a smoother heart.
Hide strings. 

UPDATED:
Sheri from Frogging Along didn't have craft wire, so she came up with the idea to use a reverse single crochet (aka crab stitch) for the last row. It really holds the shape and keeps the top sturdy.
